What Are Resources?
This website uses Resources as a beginner navigation label for inputs gathered, collected, or refined for later use. The game and current-build indexes use more specific families—including crafting materials, upgrade materials, and cooking ingredients—so an individual entry should always preserve its current in-game category.
The practical distinction is simple: a resource is usually valuable because of what it can become. Using, selling, or processing it without a plan can create another gathering trip later.
Why Beginners Care
New players encounter many unfamiliar pickups before they understand town projects, crafting stations, item research, upgrading, or consumable preparation. Inventory pressure can make every stack look disposable. A better question is: Which current goal could this support?
Keep resources when they belong to one of these groups:
- an equipment base you are actively testing;
- a confirmed crafting or upgrading step;
- a station, research, or settlement objective;
- recovery supplies for the next route;
- an unfamiliar progression use that has not yet been ruled out.
This does not mean every stack is permanently rare. It means renewability and source should be verified before the final copy is spent.
Gathering in the Together Era
Moon Studios’ Together update changed gathering feedback and other resource systems. The same update also revised crafting requirements, research, and refineries. This makes the current interface more reliable than an old route video for understanding what an input does today.
While exploring:
- gather visible inputs that do not require abandoning a safe route;
- note the broad environment and activity that produced them;
- avoid claiming a fixed yield from a single collection;
- return to storage when the carried stack belongs to an active project;
- confirm the current item description before refining or spending it.
A single observation does not prove a guaranteed spawn or drop rate. The database records a source only after repeated or otherwise reliable verification.
Raw and Refined Inputs
The official Together notes confirm that refineries remain part of the resource loop and can use fuel to accelerate processing. A beginner should therefore separate raw inputs, refined outputs, and fuel rather than treating them as one interchangeable pile.
Before processing a full stack, check:
- which refinery accepts the input;
- which output the current interface previews;
- whether the active project needs the raw or refined form;
- whether fuel is worth using for the present goal;
- whether storage space is available for the result.
Exact times, ratios, and fuel values are version-sensitive and belong in verified records, not this overview.
Resource Priorities
Prioritize by project rather than by assumed rarity color:
| Priority | Use |
|---|---|
| Immediate | Supplies needed to survive or complete the route being attempted. |
| Active build | Inputs for one tested weapon or armor direction. |
| Progression | Materials tied to research, stations, access, or town development. |
| Reserve | Common inputs held for later experimentation. |
This prevents three unfinished equipment projects from consuming the materials needed to make one character functional.
Storage Method
Use labels that answer a future question. “Weapon project,” “armor project,” “cooking,” “refining inputs,” and “unknown/progression” are more useful than sorting everything only by color or alphabet. In a shared Realm, agree which storage is communal before using a large stack.
When the purpose becomes known, move the item out of the unknown group. If a patch changes the system, recheck that group first rather than assuming every old label remains correct.
What This Page Does Not Claim
This guide does not publish a best farming route, fixed node yield, respawn timer, vendor quantity, or drop rate. Those details can change and must be tied to a current version and claim-level source. Continue to Materials for crafting decisions, Consumables for expedition supplies, or the main Items Guide for database policy.
Sources
Gathering, crafting, research, and refinery context comes from Moon Studios’ Together update notes. Category boundaries were checked against the current items hub and materials index. No community route is treated as a guaranteed source.
